         Vizhinjam Lighthouse lighthouse is situated on a hill called Kurunkal which is very close to the sea. The lighthouse came into operation in the year 1972 as Vizhinjam was a busy port. It was later revised in the year 2003. The southern end of Kovalam beach is named after this hill house. The lighthouse is a thirty-five-meter tall structure, painted red and white, easily visible from a long distance. It is open to visitors and offers stunning views of Lighthouse Beach, Eaves Beach, and its surroundings. Lighthouse Road is an ideal venue for cycling and walking.

           The Karamana river crosses the highway at Tiruvallam, twelve kilometers through Kovalam. The place offers breathtaking views of the backwaters and greenery. Peppara Dam and Aruvikkara Dam are the two dams on this river. Its most famous tributary Killiyar joins at Pallathukadavu. .Thiruvallam Boat Club on the banks of the river provides cruises, canoe rides, kayaking and houseboat cruises. Its timing is from 10 am to 6 pm..

         It is ten kilometers away from Kovalam. The coastline of the region is visible from this pier to Kovalam. Waliyathura means 'big port'. Another port in the region is Cheriyathura, meaning 'small port'. The place offers amazing views of the sun and the sea. Fishing is the main activity here. It was a mesmerizing sight to see the beautiful fish swimming in the water, the fishermen setting their nets in the water and the waves crashing into the pier.           Kovalam Art Gallery in Kovalam showcases art pieces, paintings and artworks. The paintings in this art gallery contain ancient Indian paintings of Sanskrit culture. Exhibits related to ancient traditions, heritage culture, Mughal era, Rajput era and many others from China, Tibet and Japan are found here. The main attractions here are paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, Svetlova and Nicholas Roerich and some rare Indian fresco paintings.

          Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple is twelve kilometers away from Kovalam. It is one of the major Hindu temples in India. The temple is believed to be around 2000 years old and is located on the banks of Karamana river. This is a special temple dedicated to Parasurama, the mythological character who is believed to have created Kerala. One of the important festivals here is the Bali Tarpanam festival held on the day of Karkidakavavu.

          Another visiting place in Kovalam is the Vizhinjam Rock Cut caveTemple which has rock cut sculptures dating back to the 18th century. This temple is dedicated to Vinandhara Dakshinamurthy. The unfinished sculptures of Lord Shiva and Parvati are also major attractions of the place. The site of Vijinjam was formerly the capital of the chiefs of Ai. These people ruled a part of South India in the 8th century. Located 3 km from Kovalam, this cave has remained undiscovered for many years. Opening time  9 am to 6 pm on all days except Monday.
